My UX Design Portfolio: A Detailed Walkthrough
I am a Senior Product Designer with six years of experience. Here are some of the reasons why I redesigned my portfolio.
Hi everyone, 👩🏼💻
In my latest YouTube video, I had a detailed walkthrough of my UX Design Portfolio landing page. I thought it would be helpful to share some key takeaways here in this newsletter as well!
Why a Portfolio Refresh Was Necessary💬
For those of you who might not know, this is my fourth time creating a portfolio. The design market is constantly evolving, and it's crucial to stay current. This refresh was all about aligning my portfolio with the latest trends and showcasing my skills in the best possible light.
Top Navigation
I opted for a sticky top navigation bar to ensure easy access to all sections of my portfolio, no matter where the user scrolls.
The navigation bar includes my logo, a downloadable résumé link, and links to the various sections: Projects, About, Speaking, and Writing.
A Visual Introduction:
The landing page features a hero image that provides a glimpse into my work and expertise.
Clear call-to-action (CTA) buttons encourage hiring managers to "Email Me" or "Connect on LinkedIn."
Writing a Better Intro:
I learned from past mistakes! My previous portfolio intro was generic and forgettable.
This time, I focused on:
Specifying my industry focus: fintech and enterprise.
Highlighting my role as a Senior UX Designer at Simplii Financial.
Showcasing my passion for educational content creation through my YouTube channel.
Case Studies
I included four projects from my time at Simplii Financial.
Each project features a title, a brief description, the year it was completed, and a visually consistent thumbnail.
Beyond Design
I dedicated a section to showcase my top YouTube videos and newsletters.
While this section is optional, it helps demonstrate my involvement in the design community and my passion for the field.
Simple Footer:
My footer includes a thank-you message, a call to connect, and options to email me or download my résumé.
I also included links to my social media platforms (LinkedIn and YouTube).
Stay Tuned!
In my next YouTube video and newsletter, I'll be discussing best practices for designing case study pages, sharing tips for presenting projects effectively, and offering advice on keeping those case studies concise and engaging for busy recruiters. 🪄
Thanks for reading!❤️
